We do really like the size of this catalogue for Goldsmiths. Slightly smaller than A5 it’s a neat size and very convenient for your show visitors to carry home on the tube. While the page size is compact, the 192 inside pages are substantial enough for each student to fill a few pages with their ideas and responses to the design briefs the college set.
In response to the degree show, Goldsmiths students also created a series of videos to promote themselves alongside the show. This is a great idea and allows a further visual opportunity to showcase their work.
Steve McQueen made his first films at Goldsmiths, graduating from the BA Fine Art course in 1993. In the same year he made Bear, which documented an ambiguous encounter between two naked men, one of whom is McQueen himself. The film raised issues about violence, homoeroticism and race, themes that continue to influence McQueen’s work. In the years that followed he made more short films, often projecting them onto the walls of an enclosed gallery space, for heightened intimacy.
